Best Budget Copper Cookware Set – T-Fal C836SC Ultimate 12-Pc Set

T-fal C836SC Ultimate Stainless Steel Copper Bottom Cookware Set Most people who’re buying their first copper cookware set will not buy the best one in the market, simply because copper cookware is so expensive. For a budget set of copper bottomed cookware that a first timer will appreciate, you’ll want to check out the T-Fal C836SC Ultimate 12-Piece set .

Although not a true copper cookware set, this cookware set has stainless steel pots and pans with a copper lined base that will help with the heat transmission and control.

Be warned that the copper is very thin. If you’re looking for a true copper set I would recommend those below, but if you’re budget tight this is a nice set that works well.

Best Clad Bonded Copper Cookware Set – All Clad 5-Ply Copper Core Set

copper core
All Clad is a brand with excellent copper core clad bonded cookware, but be forewarned that they can be expensive. The good news though, is that you will get awesome quality and even better performance.

The great thing about this All Clad 600822 cookware set is the impressive heat control. The good thing about control is that you’ll be able to create masterpieces if you’re good at cooking. The bad thing about control is that you’ll burn your food if you don’t know when to turn down the heat.

If you’re transitioning from stainless steel to these copper cookware, remember to start with lower heat than you would normally use. It’s easier to crank up the heat when you need it because the copper core will help heat up the cookware real fast.

As the heat is distributed evenly with this set of great quality, I’m happy to see that food doesn’t burn in spots and the cookware is so easy to clean up afterward.

My favorite piece of All Clad copper core cookware is the 5-ply fry pan , but if you feel like you can afford to splurge on the whole set , go ahead and get it. You will never regret the purchase and it will certainly last you a lifetime or more.

Best Tri-Ply Copper Cookware Set – Calphalon Tri-Ply 10-Pc Set

calphalon tri ply copper set

The Calphalon Tri-Ply cookware set is an excellent copper cookware set. It has an aluminium core and a copper exterior that makes it very sensitive to temperature changes. The 18/10 stainless steel interior also was an excellent touch. This non-reactive surface enables me to cook just about anything using this 10-piece set of cookware.

I can even use these pots and pans for my signature sear and bake because all of these pieces are oven friendly up to 450. The set has a saute pan, 2 omelet pans and 3 saucepans which is more than enough for any home cook. This set is also sturdy and versatile enough to be used by professional chefs.

The saucepans are the best pieces of copper cookware. I simply need to deglaze this 2 ½ quart saucepan and I get perfect sauce or gravy finish every time. Thanks to the stainless steel lining, bits and pieces of ingredients that I used naturally stick to the bottom and can be deglazed easily.

Stews were also easy to make because I could simmer or boil whatever I wanted thanks to the deep design. The stainless steel lid also kept the moisture in so the broth I was making never dried up. Obviously, be removing the lid you’d be able to thicken whatever you were making.

More About Copper Cookware

Copper transmits heat well so it adapts to heat changes very fast. This is why it is excellent for cooking everything except ingredients that are too acidic or alkalic, because copper is rather reactive to these substances.

Copper cookware needs to be polished regularly. This is to avoid corrosion and to maintain the shimmery surface of copper. Copper is a really reactive element so other than polishing to prevent corrosion, you have to ensure that your cookware is always dry. This means wiping your cookware dry after each wash because even a small droplet of water would give way to discoloration.

The alternative to pure copper cookware would be cookware with copper cores. This means you would have to choose between one of two options:

Clad Bonded Copper Core Cookware

These cookware have copper cores. Other that aluminium, copper is one of the most thermally sensitive material that can be used in cookware. Boasting even heating and precise heat sensitivity, copper would make excellent cores.

Clad bonded cookware sandwich a copper core between two different metallic layers to utilize the excellent thermal conductivity of copper while using hardier metals that need less maintenance.

Tri-Ply Copper Core Cookware
Conventional tri-ply cookware have a copper exterior, an aluminium core and a stainless steel interior. This type of copper cookware utilize the strengths of different types of metals to create a better overall cookware.

Copper heats up fast and aluminium boasts even heat delivery. When theses two metals are merged with a nonreactive stainless steel interior, you’ll be able to cook almost anything on this surface.

Other types of cookware like hard anodized cookware and non stick cookware are generally more budget friendly, find out what is the best cookware for you before buying.

KitchenAid Cookware Reviews

March 11, 2017 By Tina

You’ve probably heard of KitchenAid. They’re one of the largest brands for kitchen appliances, small and large. You probably own one of those shiny and brightly colored Kitchen mixers or toasters. If you love KitchenAid appliances, you’ll love KitchenAid cookware as well. The best thing about KitchenAid cookware is that they come in similar aesthetics, so you’ll be able to create a theme for your kitchen.

KitchenAid mainly makes stainless steel cookware and hard anodized non stick cookware , but they do have copper core and aluminum cookware as well. What I love about KitchenAid cookware is that I can easily find a set that is induction-friendly. The performance for most KitchenAid cookware sets is above average too.

KitchenAid Stainless Steel Cookware

KitchenAid KCSS10LS Stainless Steel 10-Piece Cookware Set I love KitchenAid stainless steel cookware. They are affordable, made of high quality stainless steel and cook well. If you’re going for an entire cookware set, I recommend the KitchenAid KCSS10 series. This 10-piece cookware set is just gorgeous in its polished stainless steel finish , which is my favorite, but you could also go for the same set in their signature Empire Red or Onyx Black .

I didn’t buy the whole set though, as I was only looking for specific pieces to use on my induction cooktop. This stainless steel series is also available in separate pieces, such as sauce pans, saute pans, chef pans, and skillets in various sizes.

I have the 3.5-quart saute pan with glass lid. I love it. The glass lid is domed and just perfect for me to check the food cooking inside. The depth is just right for many things, even deep frying. The stockpot is great too, with the same tempered glass lid and very useful, etched measurement markings in the pot.

If you are careful with the heat, the KitchenAid stainless steel skillets work really well for frying and searing meat. The thick bottoms of the pans allow them to heat up evenly and sit on your cooktop nicely. Together with the riveted handle, each pan gleams of high quality.

The metal handles are good if you like recipes that move the food from stove to oven for a finishing touch. They aren’t good when left on the stove for long; they get a bit too warm for comfortable handling.

Remember that with all stainless steel cookware, cleaning may be a problem. Food sticks if you haven’t gotten the temperature right. With the KitchenAid cookware, you can just pop them into the dishwasher after use.

KitchenAid Hard Anodized Nonstick Cookware

KitchenAid KCH2S10KM Professional Hard Anodized Nonstick 10-Piece Cookware Set On the other hand, you may want to consider the hard anodized non stick KitchenAid KCH2S10KM cookware set. Nonstick cookware is the easiest to wash, nothing sticks, and they’re lighter than stainless steel.

This KitchenAid cookware set is solid and long lasting. I’ve used mine for more than 2 years and they’re not much different from when they were brand new. I love the Y-shape stainless steel riveted handles. They are long and this makes the cookware look really professional. They also stay cooler than those of the stainless steel set.

Another thing I love about this KitchenAid nonstick cookware is the stainless steel base. The base contributes to even heating and adds weight to the pan or pot so that it sits firmly on the stove.

You’ll notice that the non stick surface of these pieces are different from Teflon non stick pans. It may even appear to be less non stick, but eggs do slide off easily and clean up needs less effort than washing a coffee mug.

If you don’t want a full 10-piece set of the hard anodized KitchenAid cookware, I suggest getting the 5-piece set that consists of a 3.5-quart saute pan, 3-quart saucepan and 10-inch skillet. The saute pan and saucepan both come with domed glass lids, and you can actually use the lid of the saute pan for the skillet.

Cuisinart Multiclad Pro Stainless Steel Cookware Set

March 11, 2017 By Tina

Ever marveled at the cookware used on Masterchef and wished you had an immaculate set of your own spread out in your kitchen? What a magnificent sight it would be! Well, the Cuisinart MultiClad Stainless Steel Cookware might just be worthy of donning the ‘Masterchef Cookware’ title.
cuisinart multiclad pro
This 12 piece set (a superb combination of 2 saucepans and their accompanying lids, 2 open skillets, a covered sauté pan, a stockpot with lid and a steamer with lid) is made up of 3 layers; a stainless steel interior, a brushed stainless steel exterior and an aluminium layer sandwiched in between.

High Quality to Last

Stainless steel is widely accepted as the preferred material by professional cooks worldwide due to their durability and anti corrosion properties. Hence, I foresee the cookware turning into a family heirloom….talk about hand me downs. This is in fact one of the best stainless steel cookware sets you can buy .

Now, this cookware does not have any non-stick coating, so you won’t have to worry about toxic leaching and giving your food the extra ‘oomph’. Also, the aluminium core which serves as the middle layer has superior heat conductivity values which allows for fast and even heat distribution. The cookware is marketed as a ‘MultiClad’ cookware. So you have the benefit of both the base of your pots as well as the sides heating up evenly and not have any irregular hot spots. Plus, you need only use small /medium flame or heat to cook. This cookware sure knows how to please you when you’re pressed for time.

Versatile and Beautiful

The exterior is also pleasing to the eye and it’s fairly easy to maintain its polished look…just rub some baking soda paste or if anything else fails, the BarKeeper’s Friend will help. The cookware can be used on both stove tops and induction tops. It’s oven friendly too making this one of the most versatile cookware I’ve ever encountered.

The tapered rims are an added plus as it prevents liquid from dripping down the sides of the pot during pouring. Saves you the hassle of having to wipe the table every time you serve soup. And the handles have a good grip too. The side handles somehow do not heat up very fast so it’s quite comfortable to hold them without burning those fingers.

Because this cookware is not non stick, you will definitely need to grease your pans and pots prior to using them. Unless of course you have a hobby of deglazing fonds.

Also, while the side handles are cool for gripping, the lid handles are a slightly different story. They tend to get quite ‘hot’ especially when you’re steaming or boiling something, so it’s best to arm your hands with your kitchen mittens!

Lastly, the cookware comes with a ‘limited’ lifetime warranty. That confused me. Why not just say limited warranty? If you throw in the ‘lifetime’ I’d assume it’s for life. Oh wait, I guess it means only certain parts of the cookware has a lifetime warranty while the rest don’t.

The pros definitely outweigh the cons here so this cookware gets a 4.5 out of 5 stars. Get this cookware set here .

Stainless steel cookware may not be very beginner friendly though, so if you’re just starting out, you may want to look at non stick cookware or hard anodized cookware . Read my cookware reviews before you decide.

Best Cast Iron Cookware

March 8, 2017 By Tina

Back in the day, no family could go without at least one piece of cast iron cookware. The large and heavy cast iron cookware is able to perform various tasks. You could stew, braise or even sear meat in these cookware. This heavy cookware really handles heat well, which means cast iron cookware can take really high temperatures and you can move it from stove to oven.

It stores heat so well, that once heated it takes cast iron cookware a lot longer to cool down. However, this also means that cast iron cookware is less sensitive to temperature changes, so it’s not a good choice for cooking sauces. For sauces, you’d best be looking at expensive copper cookware or affordable but good stainless steel cookware .

Best Cast Iron Skillet – Lodge L8SK3 Pre-Seasoned Skillet

cast iron skillet I believe a cast iron skillet is one of the best tools for searing meat and baking practically everything. Whether it’s pork chops, braised brisket or even pizza, the Lodge pre-seasoned skillet is the way to go.

The size is really manageable at 10 inch plus. I love how I could stir fry an Asian rice dish on the stove with this skillet and into the oven it goes to make apple pie for dessert.

If you care to season this skillet properly and thoroughly, it’ll become non stick like a glossy non stick pan, and you can even flip an egg cleanly in it.

Best Cast Iron Griddle – Lodge L9OG3 Pre-Seasoned Griddle

lodge griddle My mom used to make her signature Saturday morning pancakes using a cast iron round griddle.

Which is why I couldn’t resist when I saw the Lodge round griddle . The first time I used this piece of cast iron cookware, I was brought back to my childhood.

The round griddle has a solid hardy build and since it was pre-seasoned, I immediately whipped up some pancake batter and started making pancakes. On my first try the pre-seasoned surface wasn’t non stick enough, so I rub some meat grease on it and into the oven it goes for more seasoning.

After a few rounds of greasing and baking the pan, now I can flip pancakes as if it were a teflon pan. Being on the heavier side compared to other cookware I use, the griddle sat firmly on my stove top. I’m glad for the weight because I really dislike those light weight nonstick griddles that have heavier handles and will fall off the stove.

This is a must-bring for camping trips too! It’s just the right size.

Best Cast Iron Cookware Set – Lodge L5HS3 5-Piece Pre-Seasoned Set

Lodge L5HS3 5-Piece Pre-Seasoned Cast-Iron Cookware Set Rarely would anyone buy the whole set of cast iron cookware, but if you’re determined to build those arm muscles, I highly recommend getting this 5-piece cast iron cookware set from Lodge. This set has the skillets and griddle of just the right size, and there’s also a dutch oven with cover for the stews.

The skillets are 8-inch and 10.25-inch (the one I recommended above) while the griddle is the size I reviewed above as well. The dutch oven is a 5-quart size with a cover that fits the 10.25-inch skillet too.

A warning though, check prices for this set and for separate pieces sold on Amazon. Sometimes you could actually get separate pieces for cheaper!

Best Budget Cast Iron Cookware Set – Outdoor Gourmet 5 Piece Set

Outdoor Gourmet 5 Piece Cast Iron Cookware Set A much cheaper cast iron set would be this one from Outdoor Gourmet, which is a good deal if you are looking for a budget set for pit fire cooking and know how to handle cast iron cookware.

This set comes with two skillets of 8-inch and 10-inch as well, a reversible rectangle griddle and a Dutch oven with feet.

On the downside, this cookware set doesn’t come pre-seasoned, so you’ll have to season it before use. I recommend seasoning for a few times before the first use to get a truly non stick surface. Unfortunately for beginners, there is no included instructions for seasoning the cookware. You can watch this video though.

Best Cast Iron Pot – Lodge L Series E3AP40 Enameled Pot

lodge apple pot For enameled cast iron cookware I love the Lodge cast iron pot in an apple shape. Don’t be fooled by its looks; the cast iron pot works really well.

It is coated with porcelain that gives the pot its shimmery red glow. The cast iron core retains heat well so food in the pot cooks evenly at a steady pace.

The enameled layer makes the pot a lot more fragile compared to other cast iron cookware though, so I’d handle this piece with care.

How to Choose Cast Iron Cookware

Now if you’re looking for cast iron cookware, there are pure cast iron cookware and enameled cast iron cookware.

cast iron cookware Regular Cast Iron Cookware

The regular or pure cast iron cookware has a dull black exterior that appears unattractive.

Cast iron cookware transfers trace amounts of iron into the food which is a nice supplement for those who need some extra iron in their diet. The iron transfer would improve the taste of meats or roasts drastically but it doesn’t really compliment gravy and sauces.

Regular cast iron cookware is also reactive so do not cook anything acidic or alkalic on these cookware. If you want a versatile and non-reactive cooking surface, try stainless steel instead.

Wonderful for Frying

The interior of cast iron cookware needs to be seasoned with oil once in a while to prevent it from rusting.

After you’ve seasoned it there would be a natural non-stick lining that coats the surface of the cookware. This makes the cast iron cookware a very good choice for frying food.

Enameled Cast Iron Cookware

Enameled cast iron cookware can be thought as cookware with a porcelain lining over a cast iron core. This makes the cookware more attractive because the coating can come in a range of bright or pastel colors. This lining also eliminates the need for seasoning but since the porcelain lining is made mostly of glass particles, it is fragile and prone to chipping.

Enameled cast iron cookware retain heat well and is non-reactive so you’d be able to cook acidic and alkalic ingredients in it.

Thanks to their attractive designs, you’d also be able to use these cookware as serving dishes.

If you like cookware in bright colors but can’t take the weight, try ceramic cookware or hard anodized cookware instead.
